Sunday Afternoon Clay Class - 2025

Please note, there will be no class Easter weekend, April 20th, 2025. 

This class is suitable for beginning to intermediate students. We will concentrate on the basics of wheel throwing from centering, opening, and shaping of a pot, with the initial focus on understanding the basics of making the foundational shape of cylinders. Once you have achieved those, the world of clay opens to you!

Students will work at their own pace and level, to learn the skills of the life cycle of a pot from wedging clay, trimming, glazing and finishing. Individuals with be helped at their own level of skill, with group or individual demonstrations as required. We want to encourage learning, experimenting and technique improvement.

What do I need to bring?

  • Wear old clothes or an apron.
  • Closed toe shoes, NO SANDALS for safety.
  • Light plastic to cover your pieces.
  • Pottery tools if you have them, but we have plenty to borrow if you don't!
  • Bring a friend, and have some fun.

Class includes 25lbs clay.  Students may use any of the clay types but  some clay bodies have an upcharge. Please pick up clay during the session. Clay may not be "banked" for future pick up. Please write your name on your clay and keep it on your student shelf. Any unopened clay not used during the session must be stored at home. 

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. Your money will be refunded should this happen.

Full Course

Sunday PM on the Wheel - 2025

Full Course

Morning in the Mud March 2025

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at ceramics but you have no experience? This three hour workshop encourages beginners to discover their inner potter. 

Participants will have an opportunity to explore several different methods of working with clay including wheel throwing, slab building and modeling. This workshop is open to anyone ages 16 and up.

Materials will be provided. 

While this is a process workshop meant to give the student a chance to experience clay, students may choose their (1) best piece to be glazed and finished by the instructor. 

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. Your money will be refunded should this happen.

You will be notified when your piece(s) are ready. This can be 2-3 weeks post the session depending on our kiln firing schedule. Please be patient with us as we dry,  bisque fire, then glaze fire your pieces. This can sometimes be a slow process.   Pieces will be held for 8 weeks after we have contacted you, after that time they will be deemed abandoned.

Mud Puppy Studio Time - April 2025

Please read the mud puppy policy document on our website before agreeing or applying for mudpuppy.

Upon registration you will be placed into a waiting list so we can confirm your registration. Mud Puppy is open access to the studio for students who can work independently. All mud puppies must have attended at least 3 full sessions of classes with ClayWorx Studios in order to be considered eligible. Consideration is based on the recommendation of the instructors. Safety in the studio is paramount.

If you are new to mud puppy, please contact us at clayworxstudios@gmail.com prior to signing up.  We refer the right to turn down independent access based on an individual's experience.

Monthly Mudpuppy fee schedule: 

  • $250/month - dual enrollment discount of 20% off the lowest priced item out of class or mudpuppy.*
  • You may bring your own clay or purchase clay from the studio $25/bag (upcharges apply where applicable see clay chart on the studio wall).
  • Access to studio glazes

Firing fees:

  • bisque $3.75 per ½ shelf minimum, $7.50 per shelf, or $30 full kiln. 
  • glaze $10 per ½ shelf minimum, $20 per shelf, or $80 full kiln 
  • Height on tall pieces must to be considered - up to 8” one shelf, 8-12” 2 shelves high, 12-18” 3 shelves high, 24” plus is 4 shelves. 

*Duel enrollment discount – all work made outside of the 3-hour class time is subject to firing fees as listed above.

 

We work on an honors system for determining your firing fees based on your production. If you are taking a class, fees for those pieces are exempt.  Fees are due at the end of each month, and please make payment in a timely fashion. 

Mud puppies may only use bay 2 of the studio during scheduled class time, main studio and wheels are not available.  The studio is closed to Mud Puppies on Friday mornings until 12:00 Noon and every other Wednesday morning for cleaning (please check the studio Google calendar for specific dates).

Mud puppies are in the studio for their own independent work. If they attend and wish to participate in a class, they need to enroll in that class separately. 

Your registration is for you alone. If you wish to bring ad hoc guests, please contact clayworxstudios@gmail.com to make arrangements prior to using the studio resources.

You will be given a key code to access the studio.  A maximum of 4 Mud Puppy participants will be assigned at any time. The agreements are from the 1st to the end of the month.

 

We are not accepting production potters at this time due to kiln capacity.

Thursday Youth Clay Explorations Ages 9-16, April 2025

This class will introduce students aged 9-16 to the wonderful potential of clay. We will teach many different handbuilding techniques for creating and finishing projects in clay.

Students will dive into their imaginations to make fun pottery pieces that can be used and treasured. The last session of class will give students a quick introduction to wheel work.

Clay will be provided, studio glazes and firing. Wear old clothes, closed toe shoes, and bring an old towel. Bring a snack and invite a friend to register too!

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. Your money will be refunded should this happen. Please help us spread the word to other friends to get the class to run..

Intermediate Watercolor Painting, Series of 6 classes 2025

Calendar May 4, 2025 at 2 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Watercolor painter Beth Bale will lead 6 classes for intermediate watercolor painters, May through July.  These classes are for artists with experience in watercolor painting, who are comfortable with basic watercolor techniques and want to improve their skills and knowledge of watercolor painting.  Beth will challenge students to expand their experiences with watercolor, try new things, create good sketches, paint en plein air, pay attention to issues such as composition, values and perspective as well as using multiple watercolor techniques in each painting.  As always, Beth will demo in each class and guide students in using the techniques discussed to create paintings of their chosen topic/photo.  Students may work on any subjects they wish, but each class will focus on a topic or topics and Beth will guide students wishing to work on this topic, but always provides individual help and guidance throughout class.  Beth is a fun and encouraging teacher, who wants to bring out the most creative part of each student and help them gain confidence in their art.

 

Students will be provided with the materials list for the classes so they can come prepared for class and can work on paintings between classes.

 

Cost: $150 for the series of 6 classes

Dates: Sunday, May 4th & 18th; June 1st, 22nd and 29th; and July 13th. Please note these are not consecutive dates.

Beginner Watercolor Painting, Series of 6 classes 2025

Calendar May 4, 2025 at 4:30 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Watercolor artist, Beth Bale, will be teaching a series of beginner watercolor painting classes, May through July.  These classes are for people who want to learn watercolor techniques and become more confident in their use of this amazing artistic medium.  No experience is necessary.   Students will be taught specific watercolor techniques each class and Beth will do demonstrations of these techniques. Students will create a painting each class as she guides the class in the painting for the day.  The classes will focus on animals, landscapes, and more (with input from the students who sign up).  Classes are fun and supportive.  Beth is an encouraging teacher.

 

Students will be sent the materials list for the classes so they can have their own supplies or may use Beth’s paints, paper, brushes and palettes for $5/class.  Students using Beth’s 4 basic supplies will still need to bring the other basic items on the materials list.

 

Cost: $150 for the series of 6 classes (sorry, but there are no refunds for classes missed)

Dates: Sunday, May 4th & 18th; June 1st, 22nd and 29th; and July 13th. Please note these are not consecutive dates.
