Intermediate Watercolor Painting, Series of 6 classes 2024

with Beth Bale

Calendar Jan 14, 2024 at 2 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Watercolor painter Beth Bale will lead 6 classes for intermediate watercolor painters, January through March.  These classes are for artists with experience in watercolor painting, who are comfortable with basic watercolor techniques and want to improve their skills and knowledge of watercolor painting.  Beth will challenge students to expand their experiences with watercolor, try new things, create good sketches, paint en plein air, pay attention to issues such as composition, values and perspective as well as using multiple watercolor techniques in each painting.  As always, Beth will demo in each class and guide students in using the techniques discussed to create paintings of their chosen topic/photo.  Students may work on any subjects they wish, but each class will focus on a topic or topics and Beth will guide students wishing to work on this topic, but always provides individual help and guidance throughout class.  Beth is a fun and encouraging teacher, who wants to bring out the most creative part of each student and help them gain confidence in their art.

 

Students will be provided with the materials list for the classes so they can come prepared for class and can work on paintings between classes.

 

Cost: $150 for the series of 6 classes

Dates: Sundays, January 14th & 28th, February 11th & 25th, March 10th & 24th. Please note these are not consecutive dates

Beginner Watercolor Painting, Series of 6 classes 2024

Calendar Jan 14, 2024 at 4:30 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Watercolor artist, Beth Bale, will be teaching a series of beginner watercolor painting classes, January through March.  These classes are for people who want to learn watercolor techniques and become more confident in their use of this amazing artistic medium.  No experience is necessary.   Students will be taught specific watercolor techniques each class and Beth will do demonstrations of these techniques. Students will create a painting each class as she guides the class in the painting for the day.  The classes will focus on animals, landscapes, and more (with input from the students who sign up).  Classes are fun and supportive.  Beth is an encouraging teacher.

 

Students will be sent the materials list for the classes so they can have their own supplies or may use Beth’s paints, paper, brushes and palettes for $5/class.  Students using Beth’s 4 basic supplies will still need to bring the other basic items on the materials list.

 

Cost: $150 for the series of 6 classes (sorry, but there are no refunds for classes missed)

Dates: Sundays: January 14th & 28th, February 11th & 25th, March 10th & 24th. Please note these are not consecutive dates.

Time: 4:30pm to 6:30pm

Mud Puppy Studio Time - March 2024

$250

with Mud Puppy No Instructor

Calendar Mar 1, 2024 at 9 am, runs for 4 weeks

Mud Puppy is open access to the studio for students who can work independently. All mud puppies must have attended at least 3 full class sessions with ClayWorx Studios in order to be considered eligible. Consideration is based on the recommendation of their instructor. Safety in the studio is paramount.

If you are new to mud puppy, please contact us at clayworxstudios@gmail.com prior to signing up.  We refer the right to turn down independent access based on an individual's experience.

Monthly Mudpuppy fee schedule: 

  • $250/month - dual enrollment discount of 20% off the lowest priced item out of class or mudpuppy.*
  • You may bring your own clay or purchase clay from the studio $25/bag.
  • Access to studio glazes

Firing fees:

  • bisque $3.75 per ½ shelf minimum, $7.50 per shelf, or $30 full kiln. 
  • glaze $10 per ½ shelf minimum, $20 per shelf, or $80 full kiln 
  • Height on tall pieces must to be considered - up to 8” one shelf, 8-12” 2 shelves high, 12-18” 3 shelves high, 24” plus is 4 shelves. 

*Duel enrollment discount – all work made outside of the 3-hour class time is subject to firing fees as listed above.

We work on an honors system for determining your firing fees based on your production. If you are taking a class, fees for those pieces are exempt.  Fees are due at the end of each month, and please make payment in a timely fashion. 

Mud puppies may use the studio during scheduled class time, only if there is sufficient space to allow for increased attendance. Please check with an instructor prior to attending the session. The studio is closed to Mud Puppies on Friday mornings until 12:00 Noon and every other Wednesday morning for cleaning (please check the studio Google calendar for specific dates).

Mud puppies are in the studio for their own independent work. If they attend and wish to participate in a class, they need to enroll in that class separately. 

Your registration is for you alone. If you wish to bring ad hoc guests, please contact clayworxstudios@gmail.com to make arrangements prior to using the studio resources.

You will be given a key code to access the studio. A maximum of 10 Open Studio participants will be assigned at any time. The agreements are from the 1st to the end of the month.

 

We are not accepting production potters at this time due to kiln capacity.

Sunday Afternoon Clay Class - 2024

NO CLASS EASTER SUNDAY, MARCH 31st, 2024

This class is suitable for beginning to intermediate students. We will concentrate on the basics of wheel throwing from centering, opening, and shaping of a pot, with the initial focus on understanding the basics of making the foundational shape of cylinders. Once you have achieved those, the world of clay opens to you!

Students will work at their own pace and level, to learn the skills of the life cycle of a pot from wedging clay, trimming, glazing and finishing. Individuals with be helped at their own level of skill, with group or individual demonstrations as required.

The class includes 25lbs. of clay, studio glazes and firing. Additional clay is available to purchase if needed.

Wear old clothes, an apron, and bring an old towel! 

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. Your money will be refunded should this happen.

This class is open to all levels and is designed for beginners to explore a variety of pottery making techniques. Start your clay adventures off by building a great foundation with class demonstrations and guided lessons. Each class will focus on the fundamentals you need to develop your skills. We’ll explore building with slabs, coils, pinching and throwing along with trimming and finishing touches that get amazing results.

Monday Handbuilding - Basics and Beyond

Discover the endless possibilities hand building has to offer to make functional and unique pottery.  Students of all experience levels will enjoy learning new techniques in this class.

We will focus on a variety of slab forming methods and surface decoration to create visual interest.

Learn how to make and use your own templates, stamps, sprig molds and bisque molds to enhance your work. Add volume and change the basic cylinder using altering techniques. Students with wheel experience will learn how to combine thrown and hand built components to alter pieces and create even more complex forms.

Class includes a 25lbs clay. Wear old clothes, and bring a friend, and have some fun.

Monday Evening - Handbuilding & Wheel - 2024

Calendar Mar 4, 2024 at 6 pm, runs for 8 weeks

This class is designed for any skill level and will focus on all aspects of ceramic sculpture and wheel throwing from concept to completion. We will discuss elements of 3-dimensional design, methods of constructing with clay, and surface treatments.

Students will design work based on personal interest and will be encouraged to stretch their imaginations. We will experiment with several different techniques including wheel throwing fundamentals, modeling and slab building. Students will finish their work using a range of surface treatments including texture, ceramic glaze, and polychrome.

Group demonstrations and instruction will be based on students’ interests and questions. Individual instruction will be provided at each class to promote student success. This class is intended for adults 18 years and older. 

Class includes 25lbs. of clay, studio glazes and firing. Additional clay is available for purchase. Wear old clothes, and bring an old towel.
