Sundays on the Wheel - 2023

Calendar Apr 30, 2023 at 1:30 pm, runs for 8 weeks

This class is suitable for beginning to intermediate students. We will concentrate on the basics of wheel throwing from centering, opening, and shaping of a pot, with the initial focus on understanding the basics of making the foundational shape of cylinders. Once you have achieved those, the world of clay opens to you!

Students will work at their own pace and level, to learn the skills of the life cycle of a pot from wedging clay, trimming, glazing and finishing. Individuals with be helped at their own level of skill, with group or individual demonstrations as required.

No class May 14 for Mother's Day.

The class includes 25lbs. of clay, studio glazes and firing. Additional clay is available to purchase if needed.

Wear old clothes, an apron, and bring an old towel! 

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. Your money will be refunded should this happen.

Intermediate Watercolor Painting, Series of 6 classes

Calendar Apr 30, 2023 at 2 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Watercolor painter Beth Bale will lead 6 classes for intermediate watercolor painters, starting in April.  These classes are for artists with experience in watercolor painting, who are comfortable with basic watercolor techniques and want to improve their skills and knowledge of watercolor painting.  Beth will challenge students to expand their experiences with watercolor, try new things, create good sketches, paint en plein air, pay attention to issues such as composition, values and perspective as well as using multiple watercolor techniques in each painting.  As always, Beth will demo in each class and guide students in using the techniques discussed to create paintings of their chosen topic/photo.  Students may work on any subjects they wish, but each class will focus on a topic or topics and Beth will guide students wishing to work on this topic, but always provides individual help and guidance throughout class.  Beth is a fun and encouraging teacher, who wants to bring out the most creative part of each student and help them gain confidence in their art.

 

Students will be provided with the materials list for the classes so they can come prepared for class and can work on paintings between classes.

 

Cost: $150 for the series of 6 classes

Dates: Sundays, April 30; May 14 & 28; June 11 & 25; July 9

Beginner Watercolor Painting, Series of 6 classes

Watercolor artist, Beth Bale, will be teaching a series of beginner watercolor painting classes starting in April.  These classes are for people who want to learn watercolor techniques and become more confident in their use of this amazing artistic medium.  No experience is necessary.   Students will be taught specific watercolor techniques each class and Beth will do demonstrations of these techniques. Students will create a painting each class as she guides the class in the painting for the day.  The classes will focus on animals, landscapes, and more (with input from the students who sign up).  Classes are fun and supportive.  Beth is an encouraging teacher.

 

Students will be sent the materials list for the classes so they can have their own supplies or may use Beth’s paints, paper, brushes and palettes for $5/class.  Students using Beth’s 4 basic supplies will still need to bring the other basic items on the materials list.

 

Cost: $150 for the series of 6 classes (sorry, but there are no refunds for classes missed)

Monday Mornings – Beginning & Intermediate Wheel Throwing 2023

Calendar May 1, 2023 at 9 am, runs for 8 weeks

This course is for the beginner through intermediate level pottery student and provides instruction on basic pottery making techniques. Topics include introduction to throwing on the potter’s wheel, applying glaze and introduction to firing in an electric kiln. Students will work on self-directed independent projects with impromptu discussions and demonstrations based on individual needs. Students have the opportunity to work on individual clay projects of their choice and at their own pace to develop their skill level and personal style while receiving guidance from the instructor.

No Class on Monday, May 29 for Memorial Day.

Monday Evening - Handbuilding & Wheel - 2023

Calendar May 1, 2023 at 6 pm, runs for 8 weeks

This class is designed for any skill level and will focus on all aspects of ceramic sculpture and wheel throwing from concept to completion. We will discuss elements of 3-dimensional design, methods of constructing with clay, and surface treatments.

Students will design work based on personal interest and will be encouraged to stretch their imaginations. We will experiment with several different techniques including wheel throwing fundamentals, modeling and slab building. Students will finish their work using a range of surface treatments including texture, ceramic glaze, and polychrome.

Group demonstrations and instruction will be based on students’ interests and questions. Individual instruction will be provided at each class to promote student success. This class is intended for adults 18 years and older. 

No Class on Monday, May 29 for Memorial Day.

Class includes 25lbs. of clay, studio glazes and firing. Additional clay is available for purchase. Wear old clothes, and bring an old towel.

Tuesday Mornings - Mugs & Bowls 2023

Calendar May 2, 2023 at 9 am, runs for 8 weeks

Mugs and Bowls with Lara O'Keefe!

We will spend four classes on all things mugs with special emphasis on handles. We will learn some hand-building techniques for this form for those who are not up to working on the wheel. In the second half of the session our focus will be bowls and learning to get a nice profile and a nice foot! These two forms will keep us busy and challenged but be prepared to bring home some works of Art!!

All levels welcome - just plan to bring a towel or apron and a desire to learn something new!

This class includes 25 pounds of clay.  Additional clay can be purchased for $25.

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. You will be given the option to transfer to another class or your money will be refunded should this happen.
