Clay Classes November/December

Monday AM Introduction To Pottery Making (wheel and hand-building)

$250

Calendar Oct 28, 2024 at 10 am, runs for 8 weeks

This class is open to all levels and is designed for beginners to explore a variety of pottery making techniques. Start your clay adventures off by building a great foundation with class demonstrations and guided lessons. Each class will focus on the fundamentals you need to develop your skills. We’ll explore building with slabs, coils, pinching and throwing along with trimming and finishing touches that get amazing results.

Wear old clothes, closed toe shoes, bring a friend, and have some fun.

Class includes 25lbs clay.  Students may use any of the clay types but  some clay bodies have an upcharge. Please pick up clay during the session. Clay may not be "banked" for future pick up. Clay must be kept on student shelf. Any unopened clay not used during the session must be stored at home. 

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. Your money will be refunded should this happen.

Monday Afternoon Handbuilding - Basics and Beyond

Discover the endless possibilities hand building has to offer to make functional and unique pottery.  Students of all experience levels will enjoy learning new techniques in this class.

We will focus on a variety of slab forming methods and surface decoration to create visual interest.

Learn how to make and use your own templates, stamps, sprig molds and bisque molds to enhance your work. Add volume and change the basic cylinder using altering techniques. Students with wheel experience will learn how to combine thrown and hand built components to alter pieces and create even more complex forms.

 Wear old clothes, closed toe shoes, bring a friend, and have some fun.

Class includes 25lbs clay.  Students may use any of the clay types but  some clay bodies have an upcharge. Please pick up clay during the session. Clay may not be "banked" for future pick up. Clay must be kept on student shelf. Any unopened clay not used during the session must be stored at home.

This class is designed for any skill level and will focus on all aspects of ceramic sculpture and wheel throwing from concept to completion. We will discuss elements of 3-dimensional design, methods of constructing with clay, and surface treatments.

Students will design work based on personal interest and will be encouraged to stretch their imaginations. We will experiment with several different techniques including wheel throwing fundamentals, modeling and slab building. Students will finish their work using a range of surface treatments including texture, ceramic glaze, and polychrome.

Group demonstrations and instruction will be based on students’ interests and questions. Individual instruction will be provided at each class to promote student success. This class is intended for adults 18 years and older.

This class covers all levels and aspects of wheel throwing and handbuilding skills.  Students will explore all forms of pottery and can discuss the commonalities and complexities of various shapes and forms.   Students will work at their own levels, on their own projects to bring their ideas to life with the help of the instructor. 

Group demonstrations and instruction will be based on students’ interests and questions. Individual instruction will be provided at each class to promote student success. 

Wear closed toe shoes. Bring a hand towel, a friend and clothing to get messy in! 

Class includes 25lbs clay.  Students may use any of the clay types but  some clay bodies have an upcharge. Please pick up clay during the session. Clay may not be "banked" for future pick up. Clay must be kept on student shelf. Any unopened clay not used during the session must be stored at home.

Thursday AM – Beginning & Intermediate Wheel Throwing 2024

Calendar Oct 31, 2024 at 9 am, runs for 7 weeks

This is a 7 week class, no class on Thanksgiving November 28th.

This course is for the beginner through intermediate level pottery student and provides instruction on basic pottery making techniques. Topics include introduction to throwing on the potter’s wheel, applying glaze and introduction to firing in an electric kiln. Students will work on self-directed independent projects with impromptu discussions and demonstrations based on individual needs. Students have the opportunity to work on individual clay projects of their choice and at their own pace to develop their skill level and personal style while receiving guidance from the instructor.

Wear old clothes, closed toe shoes, bring a friend, and have some fun.
