Clay Classes May/June

Sunday Afternoon Clay Class - 2024

Calendar May 5, 2024 at 1:30 pm, runs for 8 weeks

NO CLASS MOTHER'S DAY SUNDAY, May 12th, 2024 or FATHER'S DAY SUNDAY, JUNE 16th, 2024.  THIS IS A 7 WEEK CLASS.

This class is suitable for beginning to intermediate students. We will concentrate on the basics of wheel throwing from centering, opening, and shaping of a pot, with the initial focus on understanding the basics of making the foundational shape of cylinders. Once you have achieved those, the world of clay opens to you!

Students will work at their own pace and level, to learn the skills of the life cycle of a pot from wedging clay, trimming, glazing and finishing. Individuals with be helped at their own level of skill, with group or individual demonstrations as required.

The class includes 25lbs. of clay, studio glazes and firing. Additional clay is available to purchase if needed.

Wear old clothes, an apron, and bring an old towel! 

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. Your money will be refunded should this happen.

Monday Morning Introduction To Pottery Making (wheel and hand-building)

This class is open to all levels and is designed for beginners to explore a variety of pottery making techniques. Start your clay adventures off by building a great foundation with class demonstrations and guided lessons. Each class will focus on the fundamentals you need to develop your skills. We’ll explore building with slabs, coils, pinching and throwing along with trimming and finishing touches that get amazing results.

Class includes 25lbs clay. Wear old clothes, and bring a friend, and have some fun.

Monday Handbuilding - Basics and Beyond

Discover the endless possibilities hand building has to offer to make functional and unique pottery.  Students of all experience levels will enjoy learning new techniques in this class.

We will focus on a variety of slab forming methods and surface decoration to create visual interest.

Learn how to make and use your own templates, stamps, sprig molds and bisque molds to enhance your work. Add volume and change the basic cylinder using altering techniques. Students with wheel experience will learn how to combine thrown and hand built components to alter pieces and create even more complex forms.

Class includes a 25lbs clay. Wear old clothes, and bring a friend, and have some fun.

This class is designed for any skill level and will focus on all aspects of ceramic sculpture and wheel throwing from concept to completion. We will discuss elements of 3-dimensional design, methods of constructing with clay, and surface treatments.

Students will design work based on personal interest and will be encouraged to stretch their imaginations. We will experiment with several different techniques including wheel throwing fundamentals, modeling and slab building. Students will finish their work using a range of surface treatments including texture, ceramic glaze, and polychrome.

Group demonstrations and instruction will be based on students’ interests and questions. Individual instruction will be provided at each class to promote student success. This class is intended for adults 18 years and older. 

Class includes 25lbs. of clay, studio glazes and firing. Additional clay is available for purchase. Wear old clothes, and bring an old towel.

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. Your money will be refunded should this happen.

Tuesday Mornings - Wheel & Handbuilding 2024

Calendar May 7, 2024 at 9 am, runs for 8 weeks

This class covers all levels and aspects of wheel throwing and handbuilding skills.  Students will explore all forms of pottery and can discuss the commonalities and complexities of various shapes and forms.   Students will work at their own levels, on their own projects to bring their ideas to life with the help of the instructor. 

Group demonstrations and instruction will be based on students’ interests and questions. Individual instruction will be provided at each class to promote student success. 

Bring a hand towel, a friend and clothing to get messy in! This class includes 25 pounds of clay.  

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. You will be given the option to transfer to another class or your money will be refunded should this happen.

Teens on Wheels

Calendar May 7, 2024 at 6 pm, runs for 4 weeks

This is a 4 week class.

This class is designed for high-school age (and recent grad) young adults, ages 16-20, who are interested in some serious focus in learning how to throw clay on the wheel. No experience necessary – a great opportunity to come learn a new skill and have some fun. We will learn about the process of crafting functional ware and art with clay, how to center clay on the wheel and craft ware, surface decoration, the drying process, trimming, glazing, and firing. Our time together in the studio will encourage you to slow down, focus on your craft, and explore your creative self. We are a welcoming and encouraging community and space…so leave all those life stressors at the door and come have some fun.

Classes may be cancelled at short notice if the minimum attendance is not achieved. Your money will be refunded should this happen. Please help us spread the word to other friends to get the class to run.
